Awareness:
You should always be aware of your surrounds and always be on the look out, especially when you are alone and at night. Never have the mind set that it wont happen to you, because those are always the first victims to be attacked.

Self-Defense Classes:
Every women should look into classes to take so that they will be well prepared for their future if anything ever does happen. You should also specifically look into the classes you're taking. You need to try to find classes that will specifically help you in defending yourself, not other kinds of fighting classes.

Running Away:
In my own opinion and many others including professionals opinions, running away from the attacker should be the very first option when you're being attacked by someone. Having to be physical back with someone is when you are not able to run away in any possible way. Also if you are not able to run away, you should always have pepper spray on your person at all times because if youre not able to run away, spraying the pepper spray in the attackers eyes will give you a brief chance to escape and run away to safety.
